Finding Value
I entered the Snowflake Data Marketplace competition on a whim, selecting the finance category despite having no prior experience with FX investing. My primary goal was to enhance my SQL skills and gain hands-on experience with cloud-based data analysis. Over a weekend, I researched how to evaluate a country's economic conditions to identify investment opportunities.
The challenge: Provide an investment recommendation for a client looking to invest $1 million in a foreign currency for one year.
When my submission was selected as the winner in the finance category, I was surprised. Finance was something I always had an interest in but to win a competition was a huge confidence boost for me. At the time, I didn’t realize this experience would later lead to my role on Lumen’s data warehousing team. Even though today most of my work involves Databricks, that competition was a pivotal moment in my career.
